Repair or replace — the honest answer
Repair makes sense when the damage is localised and the rest of the floor still has life in it. It stops making sense when wear is spread across the whole room, because a repaired section will sit next to faded, scuffed material and the patch becomes the thing you notice. We will tell you which situation you are in when we look at it, including when the answer is that a repair is not worth your money.
Matching is the hard part
The difficulty in any flooring repair is rarely the labour — it is finding material that matches. Product lines get discontinued, and even a current line shifts slightly between production runs. If you have leftover planks or tiles from the original installation sitting in a garage or basement, they are the single most useful thing you can hand us. If you do not, we look for the closest available match and will be straight with you about how close that is going to be.
How the floor was installed changes the repair
A click-lock floating floor can often be opened up from the nearest wall and reassembled, or a single plank cut out and replaced. A glue-down floor is a different job — the damaged piece is removed and the substrate cleaned back before anything new goes down. Neither is difficult once you know which you are dealing with, but the approach is not interchangeable.
Tile, grout and what sits underneath
Tiles that sound hollow underfoot have usually lost their bond to the substrate, and re-grouting around them treats the symptom rather than the cause. Cracked grout along the same line repeatedly is often movement below rather than bad grout. We check what is underneath before repairing the surface, because a repair over an unresolved substrate problem will fail again in the same place.
